Do you blog? Are you blogging? No? It’s classic procrastination ~ why do today, what you can put off until tomorrow?

Actually, I really enjoy blogging, but I really don’t have time to blog, my life is so busy. But I think about it all the time, I think to myself “I really should sit down and spend an hour researching and writing a blog”. Then I think, “I’ll see if I can find time tomorrow, or maybe over the weekend”.

What kind of a blogging action plan is that?

It’s merely a plan of inaction, procrastination, fear and excuses. It’s a plan to make sure you never get it done, spend more time and energy worrying about not doing it, and then getting stressed because your website hasn’t had an update in 6 weeks. Full circle, you think you’ll make time tomorrow, and then spend all day today thinking about when you will do it tomorrow.

Blogging – What’s the solution?

No time to be blogging | The Smart Train

Basic planning of course. Humans love routine. Blogging should be a routine activity, so blend a writing routine into your week – same time, same day (same place?) The inspiration begins to flow more naturally also, as your subconscious starts thinking of issues and topics to ponder over and write about. You will also build up a mental database of events and happenings over the week or month to blog about.

A friend recently put it into perspective with their comment “For me, it [blogging] has just got to become part of the working week in the same manner as any other aspect to the business.”

When thinking of blogging, some like to write ideas in a notebook, some like to make notes on their phone, some make recordings to build into an audio or video blog.

If you are not blogging you are not:

  • Providing content for your website
  • Keeping Google happy
  • Keeping your readers happy
  • Making a difference
  • Portraying yourself as a SME (subject matter expert)
  • Engaging with other bloggers, commenters, and your target market
  • Building your brand

So excuse me while I go and make my plan for blogging (well I have to now, don’t I?)
